“I first learned to work with and appreciate the complexities of textured hair at the age of 12.”

My foster family had Jamaican roots and showing love through hair care was a big part of their culture. We spent entire days braiding and caring for each others' hair, and I learned the art and science of protective hairstyles.

Through a chaotic and frenetic childhood, I found a healthy outlet in self-expression, and I followed that passion to NYC where I ultimately began my hairstyling career.

Russell readily combines grit with sophistication after having spent years honing his craft in the trenches of the New York salon world.

He perfected coloring techniques with A‐list clientele at Salon Prive, learned to adapt edgy looks for the Rock’n’Roll set at SoHo’s famed Mudhoney Salon, and polished his textured hair skills, blending an uptown aesthetic with natural hair cutting and styling techniques at Edris Salon.
